Privacy policy

How we collect, use and protect personal information, including students’ details and payments.
1. Who we are
This website is run by Sylvia Tziortzis, a maths tutor in New South Wales ("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the site, why, and what we do with it. You can contact us about privacy using the contact details on the home page.
2. What we collect
- Account details: the student’s name, an email address and a password. Passwords are stored only in scrambled (hashed) form by our sign-in provider; we can never read them.
- Optional details you add in My details: school year, school, a mobile number and learning goals.
- Booking details: the subject, the topics you want to cover, lesson times, whether the lesson is online or in person, and, for in-person lessons, the address you give us.
- Payment records: the amount paid, the date, any discount code used and a payment reference from Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe’s secure page and never reach us. We do not see or store card numbers.
- Sign-in cookies that keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
3. Students under 18
Most of our students are under 18. A parent or guardian should create the account, or agree to it being created, and should read this policy. Parents and guardians can ask us about, correct or remove their child’s information at any time.
4. Why we use it
- To run your account, book and hold lessons, and show your lessons to you.
- To prepare for and teach lessons (subject, topics and goals) and to travel to in-person lessons.
- To take payments, give refunds and keep the financial records the law requires.
- To contact you about your lessons. We do not send marketing emails and we never sell your information.
5. Who we share it with
We share information only with the services that run the site, and only what they need: Supabase (database and sign-in), Stripe (card payments and refunds) and our website host. These providers may store data outside Australia, including in the United States. Each is bound by its own privacy and security commitments. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
6. How long we keep it
We keep account and booking information while your account is open. Payment and booking records are kept for at least five years after the lesson, as Australian tax law requires. When information is no longer needed it is deleted or de-identified.
7. Your choices and rights
- See and update your details at any time in My details.
- Ask for a copy of your information, a correction, or for your account to be closed and your information deleted, using the contact details on the home page. Records we must keep by law are kept until that period ends.
- You can use the site without the optional details; only a name and email are needed to book.
8. Security
Information is sent over encrypted connections and stored with access limited to your own account and the tutor. No system is perfectly secure; if a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm we will tell you and, where required, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
9. Questions and complaints
Contact us using the contact details on the home page and we will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the OAIC at oaic.gov.au.
